WhatsApp QR Code for Business: Get More Customer Chats

Updated 31 October 2026 6 min read

For most Indian customers, WhatsApp is the easiest way to contact a business — easier than a phone call, and far easier than email. A WhatsApp QR code removes the last bit of friction: instead of saving your number and searching for it, customers scan and land straight in a chat with you, often with a message already typed.

How a WhatsApp QR code works

WhatsApp supports "click to chat" links in this format:

https://wa.me/919876543210?text=Hi%2C%20I%20want%20to%20order
  • The number must include the country code (91 for India) and contain digits only — no plus sign, spaces, dashes or leading zero.
  • The text part is optional. It pre-fills a message the customer can edit before sending.
  • The link works on phones and on WhatsApp Web, and the customer does not need to save your number first.

A WhatsApp QR code is just this link encoded as a QR. It works with both regular WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business numbers.

Create one in a minute

  1. Open the free generator on the QRBabu homepage and choose the WhatsApp tab.
  2. Enter your number with country code, for example 91 98765 43210. The generator removes spaces for you.
  3. Add a pre-filled message that tells you why the customer is writing, such as "Hi, I saw your poster and want to book a table".
  4. Download the PNG, then scan it with a different phone to confirm it opens a chat with the right number.

Use the pre-filled message to know where customers came from

If you place codes in several locations, give each one a different message — "Hi, from the shop counter", "Hi, from the newspaper ad", "Hi, from Instagram". When chats arrive, you immediately know which placement is working, without any special software. For exact scan counts, make a dynamic QR that points to your wa.me link; you can then also change the number or message later without reprinting.

Ideas for different businesses

  • Kirana and retail shops: "Order on WhatsApp for home delivery" on bags, bills and the shop board.
  • Restaurants and cloud kitchens: a code on takeaway boxes for repeat orders.
  • Clinics, salons and tutors: "Scan to book an appointment" at reception and on visiting cards.
  • Real estate and car dealers: a code on property boards or windscreen cards that pre-fills the listing name.
  • Service businesses (plumbers, electricians, AC repair): on stickers left after a job so customers can call you back.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Leaving out the country code — the link fails or opens the wrong number.
  • Using a personal number you might change. If the number may change, use a dynamic QR so you can update it.
  • Writing a long pre-filled message. Keep it to one short sentence the customer can send as-is.
  • Not replying quickly. A QR creates expectations; WhatsApp Business lets you set greeting and away messages so customers always get an instant response.

WhatsApp Business also offers its own QR code inside the app (Settings → Business tools → Short link). That works too; making your own gives you control over the design, the message and, with a dynamic code, scan tracking.

Frequently asked questions

Do customers need to save my number to message me?

No. A wa.me link opens a chat directly, even if the number is not in their contacts.

Does a WhatsApp QR code work with WhatsApp Business?

Yes. The same link format works for regular and WhatsApp Business accounts.

Can I change the number later?

Not on a static QR. Use a dynamic QR if you may need to change the number or message after printing.
